Pegasus has been creating market-leading accounting software since 1981 and in that time we’ve come a long way. It’s not a coincidence that we share our 30th anniversary with the IBM personal computer. Our growth was accelerated in the mid 1980s when IBM sold the Pegasus solution, Senior, with the IBM PC and called it Teamwork.
Our core activity has been business accounting software from day one. To ease the transition from manual accounts to an automated system, Pegasus launched Single User in 1982. This entry level modular system had over 30,000 users and was simple to install and easy to use. Larger businesses required a more sophisticated solution giving access to multiple users. This led to the introduction of Senior in 1985 and the start of networking in the Pegasus product range.
Opera was a key product launch for Pegasus in 1993. It quickly became established as a market leader in the DOS marketplace. Opera, as the musical name suggests, could be used equally effectively by solo or network users. Opera’s strength lay in its versatility, as customers ranged from small businesses to large organisations.
As a company, we had grown significantly and had staff sited in three different locations throughout Kettering. Pegasus moved to purpose built premises in 1995 to bring all staff under one roof, at a cost of £2.9 million. The benefits of the move demonstrated increased operating efficiency, improved staff morale and enhanced our corporate image.
In 1996 our first website, Pegasus World, was launched. The title reflected the fact that Pegasus is comprised of more than just software, and a wealth of information became available online for our customers, Partners and Developers.
Our first 32-bit product, Opera II, was launched in 2001. Opera II is a financial and business management solution used today by more than 20,000 companies.
In our 25th year, Pegasus became part of Infor, the fastest-growing enterprise software company in the world, with headquarters in Atlanta, USA and offices in 100 countries. We share the same goal: to help our customers stay successful in a fiercely competitive world.
Then in 2010 we released the next generation of Opera: Opera 3.
With more functionality than ever before across its core applications, a stunning, contemporary user interface, Windows 7 look and feel, and applications expanding into areas such as CRM, business intelligence, electronic document management, construction and manufacturing, Opera 3 now offers the potential to bring together all sides of the business into one streamlined solution.
Today, Pegasus has evolved to become one of the UK’s leading providers of financial and business software for small to medium-sized enterprises, with over 30,000 customers and over 100 Partners. You are part of that success and we’d like to thank you for your business.
